NORWAY ICE CLIMBING

£1500 - Guiding and Instruction

5 Days Ice Climbing | 2:1 Ratio | Expert Instruction

£1000 - Catering and Accommodation

6 nights in a cosy Norwegian chalet with high-quality, home-cooked meals

Join us for a week of unforgettable ice climbing in the stunning Norwegian valley of Hemsedal. Expert instruction and guiding from knowledgeble and experienced instructors.

Accommodation includes carefully prepared, home-cooked meals throughout the week, with a focus on quality ingredients and generous, well-balanced food to support long days in the mountains. The perfect blend of adventure, comfort, and spectacular winter scenery. With its frozen waterfalls, towering cliffs, and reliable conditions, Hemsedal is one of Norway’s premier ice climbing destinations.

  • Based in cosy and comfortable accommodation, you’ll enjoy hearty home-cooked meals each day and be guided throughout the week by our expert, highly experienced, instructors. We’ll take you through a progression of single-pitch and multi-pitch ice climbs tailored to your experience and goals. Whether you're completely new to ice or looking to refine your technique on steeper routes, this trip is designed to offer both challenge and enjoyment in equal measure.

Much like our popular Lofoten Rock Climbing trip, this week combines world-class climbing with a relaxed, supportive atmosphere — perfect for those looking to build confidence, improve their skills, and experience the magic of Norwegian winter climbing.

  • To get the most out of this trip, you’ll need some previous outdoor rock climbing experience, familiarity with axes and crampons and a good level of general mountain fitness.

Prior winter climbing experience is very helpful but not essential — we’ll introduce techniques progressively and tailor the climbing to suit your level.

If you already have plenty of experience, we’ll make sure you’re challenged with higher-grade routes, technical coaching, and the opportunity for more advanced guided climbs.

If you’re unsure whether it’s suitable for you, just get in touch and we’ll be happy to advise.

  • Arriving on your course with a good level of fitness will help you get the most out of the experience - you don’t need to be an elite athlete, but working on your fitness with purpose in the lead-up will make the days more enjoyable, less tiring, and far more rewarding.

Ice climbing requires good all-round fitness, with an emphasis on upper body and core strength, balance, and coordination. You don’t need to be a gymnast, but a strong back, shoulders, and grip will make climbing much more enjoyable and efficient. Regular climbing, bodyweight training, or resistance exercises are ideal.

Cardiovascular fitness is also important — expect approaches on foot, often carrying a rucksack, so hill walking, running, or cycling can help build your base. Don’t overlook flexibility and mobility training, which support better movement on the rock.

I can help guide you towards the most effective type of training to suit your lifestyle, location, and the specific demands of your course. Don’t hesitate to ask!

  •

    Transport

Participants are responsible for arranging their own flights and transport for the week, including hire cars.

Guidance will be provided on travel timing and daily meeting points, and there is usually the opportunity to share vehicles informally within the group.
